Michael Fassbender unsure on another Magneto appearance
While the Marvel cinematic universe goes from strength to strength and, despite poor returns and reviews, the DC version continues a-pace, the future of 20th Century Fox’s X-Men franchise remains decidedly uncertain. X-Men: Apocalypse, released this summer, opened to mixed reviews and grossed $155million in the US, the third lowest domestic gross of the series and while its international sales were decent, it has left everything a little up in the air.
Star Jennifer Lawrence had said she was not done with the X-Men films in the summer but seemed less keen when asked about her future on the series while promoting Passengers, saying she would rather play Mystique in Guardians of the Galaxy than another X-Men movie. Now Michael Fassbender has been asked on the future of both the series and Magneto, but it seems he is as in the dark as we are. Speaking on The Empire Film Podcast (via Bleeding Cool), Fassbender said:
I don’t know to be honest. I haven’t made any sort of decision on it because I have no idea what’s happening next with the franchise to be honest.
It seems Fassbender is unclear if he will even be invited back to the role let alone commit to another film, with word earlier this year suggesting that the film could either be set in the 1990’s or that it could be rebooted entirely given that the upcoming Logan will be the final appearance of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine.
Logan is released on March 3rd, 2017; X-Men: Apocalypse is out now on Blu-ray and DVD.
