Michael Fassbender was very nearly in Star Wars: The Force Awakens
If you saw our post yesterday regarding the upcoming video game adaptation Assassin’s Creed you may know that the film isn’t getting a smooth ride with critics and stands at 19% on Rotten Tomatoes (check out our review here). But despite that star and producer Michael Fassbender has been on a huge promotional tour for the film and has given a nugget of information that has sent a few waves through the online community.
Speaking on the Happy Sad Confused Podcast with MTV host Josh Horowitz, Fassbender spoke about Assassins but also revealed that he was almost in a difference sci-fi epic, namely Star Wars: The Force Awakens. “We talked about a role.” he said, “We had a conversation. I’m pretty sure I was busy doing something else in the summer he was kickstarting that.” While he doesn’t divulge which character he may have spoken to J.J. Abrams about, it isn’t much a stretch to imagine him as say Poe Dameron (played by Oscar Isaac) or General Hux, portrayed by Domhnall Gleeson.
Indeed, he may well have been in the mix for big-bad Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) as Oscar winner Eddie Redmayne revealed recently that he auditioned for the role when it was being cast. But after playing X-Men baddie Magneto for three films, Fassbender may not have wanted to play a villain again and passed on both Ren and Hux.
You can see Fassbender in Assassins Creed, which opens in UK cinemas on New Years Day.
