According to The Wrap, the opening of Illumination Entertainment’s Minions in China sees the movie become the second highest-grossing animated movie of all time.
The worldwide haul for Minions is $1.08 billion which narrowly edges past the $1.06 billion rung up by Toy Story 3 in 2010. The only film with a higher global total than these is Frozen, the 2013 Disney hit that brought in $1.28 billion.
Minions collected $20.1 million in box office receipts during its debut in China over the weekend which is almost 50 per cent higher than the Chinese opening for Despicable Me 2.
