James Bond writer: “The Bond villain has become a reality”

The writers of James Bond have been speaking about fiction becoming reality…

It’s been over a year since 007 was last seen on the big screen and we are still no closer to knowing what happened to him at the end of Spectre. He seemingly got his “happy ending” but much is still up in the end around the series, with star Daniel Craig still no closer to confirming if he will return to the role or if the usual “reboot” will soon take place.

Writer Neal Pervis, who has worked on the last six movies with co-writer Robert Wade, has been speaking to The Telegraph about the series and although he hasn’t revealed anything on its future, he has said that it will be interesting to see how the write the villain of the piece, given that the world has changed dramatically in the last few months.

“With people like Trump, the Bond villain has become a reality,” he said. “So when they do another one, it will be interesting to see how they deal with the fact that the world has become a fantasy.”

Bond has always been as good as both his villain as his surroundings, and Purvis continued that even with the changes in the highest positions around the world, that the world itself has changed so much that it could also make writing a little tricky:

“Each time, you’ve got to say something about Bond’s place in the world, which is Britain’s place in the world … But things are moving so quickly now, that becomes tricky.”

He finished by saying: “I’m just not sure how you would go about writing a James Bond film now,”
