Lucasfilm has officially revealed what can only be described as R2-D2’s dark side, but which they’ve actually named C2-B5:

We don’t know about you, but honestly, we’re a little underwhelmed. BB-8 was a great addition to the universe – referencing the past but creating something new and contemporary in feel. But this is just a new paint job on a very old character.
Nonetheless, C2-B5 is set to appear in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story which releases December 16 in the UK and US. Meanwhile you can watch the latest episode of The Star Wars Show, which profiles the ‘new’ droid:
