New X-Men movie to be made by The Fault in our Stars director

Josh Boone is to helm spin-off film X-Men: The New Mutants, featuring a fresh crop of superheroes and villains.

The new film will be a standalone project, although set in the ever-expanding X-Men universe and studio Fox. The New Mutants will join four other titles currently in the works and at various stages of development.

First up will be Deadpool, starring Ryan Reynolds who is reprising his role from an earlier Wolverine movie. We also have X-Men: Apocalypse, a follow up to Days of Future Past, currently filming and then a standalone Wolverine film which is set to be the last featuring Hugh Jackman as Logan.

Somewhere amongst all those movies is the proposed Gambit feature, with Channing Tatum in the lead role. His character is set to make a cameo in X-Men: Apocalypse too.

Not content with those however, Fox have tapped up Boone to write and direct the new film. He’s an obvious choice having worked with the studio before on the hugely popular teen hit The Fault in Our Stars.

Deadline report that Lauren Shuler Donner will produce with Simon Kinberg.

Boone will first complete work on a reboot of Anne Rice’s The Vampire Chronicles which was first made as Interview with a Vampire starring Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise.
