Noomi Rapace won’t be returning in Alien: Covenant

In rather surprising news – when considering how Prometheus ended – it turns out Noomi Rapace won’t be returning to reprise her role as Elizabeth Shaw in the film’s sequel, Alien: Covenant. Director Ridley Scott made the revelation in an interview with the Daily Mail when answering the question of whether or not Rapace would be involved with a definitive “no” and added, “We’re still casting the main roles.”

Alien: Covenant is set 10 years after the events of Prometheus and follows the crew of the colony ship Covenant, bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, who discover that what they think is an uncharted paradise, is actually a dark, dangerous world. Which makes us think that Scott may be planning to build out the Alien franchise into a rich tapestry of interconnecting storylines and characters. This would therefore leave the door open for Elizabeth Shaw to return in a later sequel, perhaps even joining up with the crew of the colony ship Covenant – or at least, whatever remains of them (after all, he’s going for a “pretty hard R” rating with the movie).

Whatever happens, it’s getting us very excited for the continuation of the franchise. Alien: Covenant‘s 6 October 2017 release date can’t come soon enough.
