It was recently announced that Steven Spielberg’s next project would be the novel adaptation of Ready Player One and now he has first actor onboard with Olivia Cooke confirmed to star.
Ready Player One follows teenager Wade Watts who likes to escape his dreary, dangerous real world by logging into Oasis, a globally networked virtual utopia where users lead idyllic alternate lives.
Cooke, who recently lit up our screens in Me and Earl and the Dying Girl, will play Sam – a Canadian blogger who goes by the handle Art3mis in Oasis and ends up joining forces with Wade.
Spielberg has been on the hunt for actors, and Cooke won out over the likes of Elle Fanning and Lola Kirke in a recent round of tests. Spielberg’s next big announcement we imagine will be the casting of the film’s male lead.
