Oscar Isaac will be the X-Men’s Apocalypse

Oscar Isaac is having a good year; he kicked it off with a performance in Inside Llewyn Davis that grabbed audiences by the scruff of the neck, continued it by shooting Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and he’s rounding it off by getting cast in X-Men: Apocalypse as none other than the titular villain. This is exciting news, for Isaac has played slimy villains in the past (a crooked husband in Drive and the vile Prince John in Robin Hood), but hasn’t gotten the chance to strut his stuff in a downright evil role – and they don’t come much more evil than En Sabah Nur, otherwise known as Apocalypse. In the comics, he is the very first mutant, born with the X-gene 5000 years ago, and has been the X-Men’s nemesis in many storylines.  He was glimpsed in the post-credits sting of X-Men: Days of Future Past, but Isaac will bring him fully to life in X-Men: Apocalypse; the film will be set during the ’80s, will bring back the ‘First Class’ cast of James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender and Jennifer Lawrence, and is due out in May 2016.
