Oscars: Casey Affleck responds to sexual harassment controversy
Casey Affleck responds to historical sexual harassment allegations against him, following the online backlash he’s received, since winning Best Actor at the Oscars on Sunday.
The 41-year-old actor picked up the award for his impressive performance in Manchester By the Sea. However, the Academy have since been criticised for ignoring the controversy surrounding Affleck’s shady past.
Affleck was accused of sexual harassment in 2010 by two women, a producer and a Cinematographer he worked with on Joaquin Phoenix’s I’m Still Here. Both women sued Affleck for a combined $4.25 million, he denied the allegations before settling the lawsuit out of court.
Affleck has now addressed the controversy to The Boston Globe, stating that the public don’t know the full story:
“I believe that any kind of mistreatment of anyone for any reason is unacceptable and abhorrent, and everyone deserves to be treated with respect in the workplace and anywhere else. There’s really nothing I can do about it, other than live my life the way I know I live it and to speak to what my own values are and how I try to live by them all the time.” he said.
Next up for Affleck is Light of My Life which he directs and stars in, he’ll also appear alongside Robert Redford in The Old Man and the Gun. Check out his Oscar-winning speech below:
