Reese Witherspoon working on new Barbie film

Reese Witherspoon is reportedly working on a Barbie origins movie. According to Tracking Board, Witherspoon is set to produce a film based on the life of Ruth Handler, the brains behind Barbie.

Apparently she has already acquired the rights to Robin Gerber’s book Barbie and Ruth which details Ruth’s rise to success. The book has been described as ‘a fascinating account of how one visionary woman and her product changed an industry and sparked a lasting debate about women’s roles.’

Handler was inspired to create Barbie after seeing her daughter playing with paper dolls. She wanted her to have a toy that was able to wear the clothes she had made for them to wear.

The Oscar-nominated actress is set to produce the project with her producing partner Bruna Papandrea.
