Whether you loved or loathed last year’s The Equalizer, Sony liked its box office takings – so much so, that they’ve fixed a release date for the sequel. September 29, 2017 will see the second instalment of the new franchise. Exhibitor Relations confirmed this on their Twitter:
Sony's EQUALIZER 2: THE SEQUELIZER drops 9/29/17–exactly 3 years after the original.

We really do hope that ‘Equalizer 2: The Sequelizer’ is the real title, but somehow we doubt it. Funnily enough, Sony had a lot of faith in The Equalizer – despite being set on a retro TV series – that they were already planning a second film months before the first one opened. When The Equalizer was released, it took home an impressive $192 million worldwide. At the moment, aside from expecting Washington to reprise his role, there is no news on any returning cast members, or if original director Antoine Fuqua will return.
So there you have it: The Equalizer sequel will be released September 29, 2017. Click here for our review of the first film.
