Robert De Niro to star in David O. Russell’s Joy

In recent years, director David O. Russell has assembled a group of actors he keeps coming back to. The FighterSilver Linings Playbook and American Hustle all have shared varying assortments of the same cast, which includes Amy Adams, Bradley Cooper, Christian Bale, Jennifer Lawrence, and not forgetting, of course, Robert De Niro, whose performance in Silver Linings Playbook was hailed as somewhat of a comeback for the veteran actor. And now De Niro is the latest addition to Joy, the new film from David O. Russell, which had stars Lawrence and Cooper already attached (although Lawrence hasn’t been officially confirmed as of yet). Joy will concern the endeavours of Joy Mangano, a single mother whose invention of the Miracle Mop leads to her becoming a millionaire. Lawrence will potentially play Joy (something we’re definitely looking forward to, following her scene-stealing turn as Rosalyn in American Hustle), while De Niro will play Joy’s father. Expect a late 2015 release for this one.
