Rogue One enjoys huge opening night box-office
After a couple of years waiting, Star Wars fans across much of the world are now finally able to see Rogue One: A Star Wars Story at their local multiplexes. And fans in the US have wasted little time in doing so and as such have apparently helped the spin-off film to enjoy a very healthy opening night yesterday.
Reports from Deadline suggest that early estimates have the film heading to around $30million for the evening in this US, a decent number for sure but it would be 47% down from the opening night of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which opened to a record Thursday night last year at $57million. The official numbers are yet to be announced by Disney but that should be forthcoming very soon.
As for the films opening weekend, estimates from Box Office Mojo are that the film could open anywhere between $120-$182million with indications that the film will open at the higher end of the scale. Stay tuned on Monday for the full box office rundown.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which stars Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Mads Mikkelsen, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Riz Ahmed and Forest Whitaker, is in UK cinemas now.
