Russo Brothers confirmed to direct next two Avengers films

Avengers: Age of Ultron has yet to hit the screens, but Marvel had officially announced that Joe and Anthony Russo will take over directing duties from Joss Whedon for Avengers: Infinity War, parts 1 and 2.

As part of a huge arc in the superhero franchise, they will begin by completing work on the third Captain America film. They previously made Captain America: The Winter Soldier, which went on to become one of the highest grossing films of 2014.

In the next film, Captain America: Civil War, Chris Evans’ title character will go up against Robert Downey Jrs Iron Man as rifts between the Avengers evolve into open revolt. In storylines that follow the comicbooks closely, the action will continue into the next Avengers films so using the same team to helm all three films makes sense.

New characters are expected to be introduced, who will hopefully go onto to have spin-off and stand alone films of their own. Get On Up star Chadwick Boseman has already been cast as Black Panther, a significant character in the developing story.

Expect plenty of foreshadowing in Avengers: Age of Ultron, which opens later this month.
