Russo brothers: ‘In Civil War, we’re going to change the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s psychology’
You’ve probably already chosen a side. Are you Team Captain America or Team Iron Man? When Captain America: Civil War is eventually unleashed, things may be a little more complex than two sides, as Anthony and Joe Russo – the film’s directors – explain in an interview with Empire magazine (via Total Film).
‘We look at this movie as setting the stage for Infinity War. We wanted Winter Soldier, Civil War, and the Infinity War films to have a strong through line.’
They also elaborated, ‘in Civil War, we’re going to change the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s psychology, and it’s an extreme shift’. What could this shift herald, exactly? Do the Avengers become even more broken apart than they appear in the trailers we’ve seen for Civil War? Could friendships be destroyed – gasp – forever? Will Tony Stark and Steve Rogers ever kiss and make up? We’ll have to see what shape Civil War leaves the MCU in when it’s finally released on April 29 in the UK, and May 6 in the US.
