Ryan Reynolds responds to Deadpool’s Oscar snub

Ryan Reynolds has responded to Deadpool‘s snub at this year’s Academy Awards. The Marvel superhero hit received no nominations much to the disappointment of Reynolds.

Yesterday, the Oscar nominees were announced, but Reynolds’ bad-mouthed superhero was nowhere to be seen on the list. This was contrast to earlier in the month, when Deadpool was nominated for two Golden Globe awards, Best Picture – Musical or Comedy and Best Actor – Musical or Comedy.

Reynolds at the time responded in typically humorous fashion:

And when The Green Lantern actor discovered that Deadpool had this time received no nominations for the Academy Awards, he reacted once again with humor, referring back to his previous tweet in the process:

Reynolds has spoken out against the Oscar’s before, calling for a wider variety of categories:

“I’ve always said that I wish the Oscars had a category for comedy as well. It’s not an easy job. Oftentimes with comedies you have to have some pathos and real grit that in turn earns you the right to subvert expectations and be funny. It takes a lot of construction.” he told Entertainment Weekly.

No superhero movie has ever been nominated in the Oscar’s Best Picture category and so Reynolds can’t feel too disheartened. Deadpool returns with a sequel, set for March 2018.
