Ryan Reynolds will return as Deadpool

Good news for Ryan Reynolds fans, and possibly bad news for X-Men fans – the actor will return to the role of Deadpool in a new film due for release in 2016. Deadpool will mean the return of Reynolds to the role of the sass-mouthed vigilante, whose iteration of the character first appeared in 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Of course, that film is by far the poorest reviewed of the entire X-Men canon, and made a mockery of Deadpool by turning him into the lobotomised, mute Weapon X. However, Reynolds’ brief appearance as Deadpool was well-received, and matched the actor’s penchant for playing on-screen smart-asses. With Reynolds himself claiming that Deadpool will have no connection to X-Men Origins: Wolverine a couple of years ago, we can rest assured that this time round, the franchise is in good hands. But a few important questions remain: will the film be rated 18, following the comics’ bloodshed? Will Deadpool break the fourth wall of the cinema, much like he does everywhere else he goes? With a scheduled release date of February 12, we’ll have to wait until then to see for sure.
