Sam Riley to play Ghost in the Shell villain?

Sam Riley (Maleficent, Control) is reportedly in negotiations to play the villain in the upcoming live-action Ghost in the Shell adaptation.

Deadline reports Riley may join the film as The Laughing Man, an ultimate hacker and extremist group leader on a mission to dismantle the cyber tech company Hanka Robotics.

The cast also includes Scarlett Johansson as female cyborg Motoko Kusanagi, and Pilou Asbæk (Game of Thrones) as Kusanagi’s second in command.

Snow White and the Huntsman‘s Rupert Sanders is directing the adaptation, with Jonathan Herman on board as screenwriter.

Ghost in the Shell releases on March 31, 2017.
