Sandman update from Joseph Gordon-Levitt
A cinematic adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s graphic novel series Sandman has been in development for a long time now, and only a year ago was it picked up by none other than Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Most well-known for his roles as an actor in many films such as Inception and 500 Days of Summer, Gordon-Levitt has also recently been seen behind the camera as director of 2013’s Don Jon. The star did a Reddit AMA, and offered an update on the project. He said:
Been doing a lot of work with David Goyer and Jack Thorne… working on the screenplay. We’ve been doing our meetings at the DC office, which is a frickin rad place to work. Also just had a great conversation last week with David and Mr. Gaiman. Neil has been extremely big hearted with me, and he’s the one I want to please most.
Gordon-Levitt plans to star as well as direct in Sandman, which will follow the character Dream and his similarly monikered siblings Death, Desire, Despair, Delirium, Destiny, and Destruction. David Goyer, who is also writing the screenplay for Sandman, was a bit more reluctant to provide specific details: ‘I hesitate to definitively say when it might go before the cameras,’ he told Deadline. ‘But the one thing different between other iterations and ours is that Neil Gaiman has been in the room with us and is a vital part of the team.’ It’s good to know that Gaiman, a prolific and imaginative writer, is on board this adaptation to such a large degree.
