A Superbad sequel has been talked about for years with the first film’s producer Judd Apatow expressing interest in making a follow-up. However, Seth Rogen, who starred in and co-wrote the teen comedy, doesn’t think it should happen.

While doing press for another sequel that has happened, Neighbors 2, Rogen told Cinemablend why Superbad 2 is not a good idea:

“To us, it was such a personal story. It was about us, and there was just no… So what?” he said.

“Now the next one is about how we’re going to college? But we didn’t go to college together. I didn’t go to college. It seemed very inorganic, but that was the only reason, really.”

He also went onto say how now he’s grown older, it would be harder to write for a younger audience:

“I don’t know how I would write a movie about high school kids now, or around that age. Even the small, the girls, the sorority girls in [Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising], it was very hard to write their characters. We have to talk to them a lot about what they would do and say in the situations that we had presented.”

Neighbours 2 is currently in cinemas but it’s unlikely Superbad 2 ever will be.
