Shailene Woodley not interested in Divergent Series’ future
The Divergent Series is already on its last legs, with the franchise spiralling into chaos just before the last addition to the franchise, Lionsgate announced they would cancel the feature film and instead release a TV movie, that will then lead on to a TV series.
Apparently Divergent star, Shailene Woodley knew none of it and wasn’t impressed by the idea. When speaking to Screen Rant during press for Snowden about her role in the franchise, Woodley said “Last I heard they were trying to make it into a television show. I didn’t sign up to be in a television show. Out of respect to the studio and everyone in involved, they may have changed their mind and may be doing something different, but I’m not necessarily interested in doing a television show.”
Woodley’s co-star Miles Teller has often talked about his distaste for the franchise, while Ansel Elgort seems just as disinterested. It may be better for Lionsgate to accept the franchise is dead to save time and money, the last iteration ‘The Divergent Series: Allegiant‘ scraped $179 million at the box office on a budget of $110 million. Add the costs of marketing and distribution and there isn’t much profit left at all in The Divergent Series.
