Director and writer Shane Black has announced that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson will take on the role of Doc Savage, The Man of Bronze.
“Doc Savage is sort of in the ether now,” Black told Thrillist. “I would very much like to do Doc with a fellow named Dwayne Johnson if we can make that work. I made a decision that Dwayne is the guy. It’s on the back burner while he’s busy.”

The project has been in the pipeline for a while now and The Iron Man 3 director previously wanted Chris Hemsworth to star as the title role but is now looking at Johnson to take the part.
The character is described as a scientist, explorer and adventurer with bronze hair who has trained himself to near superhuman levels of perfection. Black hopes to begin shooting Doc Savage “sometime next year.”
