Simon Pegg to co-write Star Trek 3

Simon Pegg is a self-professed massive Trekky, so it would appear that he has just landed his dream job as the co-writer of Star Trek 3 with Doug Jung, the creator of the TNT series Dark Blue. Justin Lin will direct, having taken over the reigns from Roberto Orci, who was going to write (along with Patrick McKay and John D. Payne) and direct the movie.

Pegg, who portrays the USS Enterprise’s chief engineer Montgomery Scott in the rebooted movie series, co-wrote and starred in the hit cult TV series Spaced, before going on to co-write Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz and The World’s End with Edgar Wright, all films in which he also starred. He also co-wrote and starred in Paul alongside Nick Frost.

Star Trek 3 is due to open July 8, 2016 in the US, tying in with the franchise’s 50th anniversary.
