Sonic the Hedgehog movie starts to spin
Sony and producer Neal Moritz are teaming up with Japan-based production company Marza Animation Planet, a division of the Sega Sammy Group, to bring Sonic to the big screen at last. Upright Citizens Brigade alumni Evan Susser and Van Robichaux are writing the screenplay, and the movie will take the form of hybrid between CG animation and live-action.
According to the official press release, the film will capture “Sonic’s irreverent tone and spirit, reuniting him with some of the most revered and infamous characters of the franchise, including the evil Dr. Eggman.” Marza Animation Planet CEO Masanao Maeda also says “Sony Pictures has had great success with hybrid animated and live-action features, and we’re confident that this collaboration will bring a fresh take to Sonic, while still capturing everything that the fans love about him.”
A release date has yet to be announced.
