This is an update on an earlier story.

Sony has confirmed it will release The Interview Wednesday evening US-time, and that it will be available to stream on dedicated website http://seetheinterview.com/ and through Google services YouTube and Play, and Microsoft’s Xbox Video platform. It will cost $5.99 to rent or $14.99 to buy.

In a statement Michael Lynton, chairman and chief executive officer of Sony Pictures Entertainment, said:

“It has always been Sony’s intention to have a national platform on which to release this film. With that in mind, we reached out to Google, Microsoft and other partners last Wednesday, December 17th, when it became clear our initial release plans were not possible. We are pleased we can now join with our partners to offer the film nation-wide today.”

At this point, the release will be US-only according to a spokesman for Sony speaking to the BBC.
