Sony discussed Spider-Man crossover with Marvel

Sony discussed the idea of allowing Marvel to use Spider-Man in a new Marvel-produced trilogy which would have Sony retain ‘creative control, marketing and distribution’, in addition to a potential appearance for the webslinger in Captain America: Civil War, before discussions broke down, it has emerged.

Details of these discussions regarding Spider-Man have come to light as a result of the hack which Sony Pictures recently suffered, revealing e-mails to and from Amy Pascal (Chairman of SPE’s Motion Picture Group), in which extensive discussions between executives at Sony and Disney (who own Marvel), all the way up to their respective chief executives Kaz Hirai and Robert Iger, take place.

It will be disheartening news to fans of the Marvel Universe pining to see a film in which Spider-Man appears alongside his comic book compatriots.
