There has been good news and bad news concerning the casting of X-Men: Apocalypse as of late. A while back, we learned of the exciting news that Oscar Isaac would be playing the eponymous villain, Apocalypse. And then only this week we found out that, sadly, Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart won’t be starring. But thankfully, more good news comes in the form of Sophie Turner (Game of Thrones), Tye Sheridan (Mud, Joe), and Alexandra Shipp (ahem… Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel) joining the cast. Essentially a follow-on of the X-Men: First Class storyline, which will follow that cast, these actors will be playing younger versions of the original film’s characters (it’s all a little complex, isn’t it?) Turner will be playing a fresh-faced Jean Grey, Sheridan will be playing Cyclops, and Shipp will play Storm. This is interesting, as it makes this film – also set in the ’80s – feel like it will essentially be a bridge between that and the first X-Men movie, and an end to the First Class storyline. Bryan Singer, director of X-Men: Apocalypse, broke the news himself on Twitter:

This is all good news; talented young actors taking on beloved superheroes. But will we get a cameo from Channing Tatum as Gambit in X-Men: Apocalypse?
