Spectre will be Sam Mendes’ final Bond film – or so he says…

Yes, yes, we’ve heard it all before with Skyfall. Bond director Sam Mendes stated that 2012’s movie would be his last behind the camera – before going on to make Spectre, which is currently breaking UK box office records. But now, speaking with Deadline, it does genuinely look like Mendes is hanging up this particular coat for good:

‘There is a sense of completeness that wasn’t there at the end of Skyfall, and that’s what makes this feel different. It feels like there’s a rightness to it, that I have finished a journey.’

Rather finalistic words from Mr. Mendes. We’re satisfied with the fact that this filmmaker, who has given the franchise such a huge boost, feels like his time in 007’s world has naturally drawn to its conclusion. But on the question of whether Daniel Craig would continue playing the world’s most famous spy, he was more ambiguous.

‘Daniel may absolutely turn around six months’ time and feel his energy renewed. Or he might say just the opposite. If he is as sensible as I think he is, he needs to go away and have some time to think and do another job that’s completely different, which he’s already doing with Othello.’

So, do you believe Mendes this time? And after Craig’s recent outburst about playing Bond, do you think the actor is also done for good? Let’s see in six months’ time.
