Spike Lee’s ‘Chi-Raq’ coming to theatres in Decemeber

Spike Lee’s upcoming satirical film, Chi-Raq, is set for a December 4th theatrical release in major U.S cities.

Deadline reports Lee’s movie — the first feature film by Amazon Studios — has been picked up by Roadside Attractions and Lionsgate for distribution. Staying true to his provocative brand of filmmaking, Lee’s story will focus on gang and police violence in Chicago’s South Side.

Chi-Raq is inspired by Lysistrata, a Greek Comedy by Aristophanes that follows a woman’s efforts to end the Peloponnesian War. Spike Lee joint alumni, Samuel L. Jackson (Do The Right Thing) and Wesley Snipes (Jungle Fever), are returning for the film. Nick Cannon and Teyonah Parris star as Chi-Raq and Lysistrata, respectively.
