Star Wars: The Force Awakens continues its record breaking turn at the North American box office, pulling in $41.6 million this weekend and rocketing Episode VII‘s total domestic earnings up to an astonishing $812 million — making it the first film in history to surpass $800 million in the United States and Canada.

The Revenant was nudged to second place but still earned an impressive $38 million, while over-seas The Force Awakens took over China’s box-office, grossing an estimated $53 million and broke China’s opening weekend record.

The Force Awakens has earned $1.73 billion worldwide and now sits in the lofty, global top three highest grossing films of all time with James Cameron’s Avatar ($2.79 billion) and Titanic ($2.19 billion). Lets see if J.J. Abrams’ cherished space opera can steal the top spot in the coming months.
