Star Wars: Episode 9 will handle the loss of Carrie Fisher with “love and respect”

Star Wars: Episode IX director Colin Trevorrow says the film will handle the tragic and untimely death of Carrie Fisher with “love and respect”.

Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy recently revealed that Leia will not feature in The Last Jedi‘s follow-up film, however it’s been reported since that they are still keeping their options open, but will not take the CGI route. And according to Trevorrow, Episode 9 will pay tribute to the actress:

“[General Leia] was a major character, that’s not a secret. She really was. And it was extremely sad for all of us, mostly just because she was so loved by the Star Wars family and everyone that worked with her. I feel like our options are limited mostly by ourselves, in that there [are] only certain things that we are willing to do. But I can guarantee it will be handled with love and respect, and all of the soul that Carrie Fisher deserves.” he told CinemaBlend.

Carrie was expected to feature more heavily in Episode 9, unfortunately that may be out of Disney’s hands. We can next see Fisher in Star Wars: The Last Jedi which arrives on December 15th, while Episode 9 is scheduled for May 2019.
