During a panel at the weekend’s Star Wars Celebration, the spin-off film now officially titled Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One had its plot revealed amongst other details.
Director, Gareth Edwards announced that the movie will be set after Episode III and before Episode IV in an era without Jedi and will follow a rogue band of resistance fighters who must unite to steal the Death Star plans.
“It’s set after Episode III, before Episode IV. It’s basically in an era where there are no Jedi, where they’re all but extinct. It’s about the fact that God’s not coming to save us. We’re on our own and we have to do this ourselves. The absence of Jedi is omnipresent in the film, it hangs over the whole movie. It comes down to a group of individuals who don’t have special powers but have to bring hope and justice to the galaxy.” said Edwards
With Felicity Jones so far the only officially confirmed cast member, Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One is set to start its production in the summer with a release date of December 2016.
