Star Wars: Rogue One won’t be scored by John Williams

Legendary composer John Williams won’t be writing the musical score for Star Wars: Rogue One, instead Disney has hired Oscar-winning composer Alexandre Desplat (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows Part 1 & 2, The Grand Budapest Hotel) to take on the challenge. Desplat confirmed the news when speaking to French radio program, Radio Classique’s Culture Club, that he will be re-teaming with Gareth Edwards on the movie after the pair worked together on Godzilla.

It will mark the first time that Williams hasn’t scored a Star Wars feature film, although this is in-keeping with Disney’s plans for these spin-off movies more generally, as they separate themselves from the core sequels.

Rogue One is scheduled for release on December 16, 2016.
