Star Wars: The Force Awakens Breaks Global Debut Record

Star Wars: The Force Awakens broke a number of box office records these past couple days, most notably having the biggest domestic opening weekend ever with an estimated $238 million. Early reports determined that The Force Awakens made $517 million worldwide, falling short of Jurassic World’s $525 million debut. Upon further inspection, however, it appears that The Force Awakens accumulated an additional $9 million domestically and $2 million internationally on Sunday. This brings the film’s grand total to almost $529 million, meaning that The Force Awakens has officially taken a bite out of Jurassic World‘s global record.

At this rate, there’s zero doubt The Force Awakens will take down the summer’s biggest hit to become the highest-grossing blockbuster of 2015. The people behind Jurassic World aren’t jealous, though. Producer Frank Marshall even congratulated the Star Wars crew on Twitter:

That’s pretty cool and humble of Universal. We wonder if James Cameron will be as gracious if Star Wars: The Force Awakens takes down Avatar as the highest-grossing movie of all time.
