Star Wars: The Force Awakens Passes $1 Billion Worldwide

Who saw Star Wars: The Force Awakens over the weekend? Who saw it twice? Who saw it three times? You get the idea.

Following up the biggest opening weekend ever, The Force Awakens hit another box office milestone over its second weekend, making $1 billion worldwide faster than any other film in cinematic history.

It only took The Force Awakens 12 days to hit this mark, beating out Jurassic World’s previous record of 13 days. The Associated Press noted that Jurassic World had the advantage of being released in China along with its domestic release. The Force Awakens, meanwhile, won’t be released in China until January 9.

At the domestic box office alone, Star Wars: The Force Awakens made an estimated $153.5 million this past weekend and $544.6 total. On the global chart, The Force Awakens is on its way to becoming one of the ten highest-grossing movies of all time. If it keeps breaking records left and right, it could also take down Avatar as the biggest movie of all time. Of course making over $2.7 billion worldwide is no easy feat, even for Star Wars.
