Despite being panned by critics (the film’s Metascore currently sits at 31), Transformers: Age of Extinction has opened big with an approximate worldwide total of $301m. An estimated $90m of the $201m international total came from China, which makes it the biggest debut ever over there for an imported movie. Given the huge success of the Transformers trilogy, it makes sense to keep the franchise alive, despite the somewhat lacklustre finale of the third film. And Michael Bay seems to have plans in motion as, in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, he stated:

“It’s kind of like a new Transformers. We had three, the first trilogy, and this is going to be the next one. I’m not necessarily sure that I’m doing the others, but that’s what it’s meant for.”
