Stephen King explains disappointing The Dark Tower adaptation
Yeah I know, just like you, we here at Flickreel felt a pinch of excitement when we heard Stephen King’s fantasy series The Dark Tower was getting a movie adaptation, not to mention it would star best actor winner Matthew McConaughey and Idris Elba. Then, just like you… we saw the film.
Universally panned by critics, The Dark Tower was more than just a disappointment, almost a failure. Now, original creator, Stephen King has finally given his take on the poorly received adaptation and its challenges.
“The major challenge was to do a film based on a series of books that’s really long, about 3,000 pages. The other part was the decision to do a PG-13 feature adaptation of books that are extremely violent and deal with violent behaviour in a fairly graphic way. That was something that has to be overcome.”
King seems to be fairly confident about the upcoming TV adaptation too, saying it will be more like a reboot. He had no bad will towards the film itself though, saying “I thought it was pretty good.” Stephen King’s work has been in the limelight recently, with IT becoming one of the highest grossing horrors ever made.
