Steve McQueen begins work on follow-up to 12 Years A Slave
Steve McQueen has started work on a follow-up to his Oscar-winning 12 Years A Slave with a female-led heist thriller.
His next feature has Gone Girl’s Gillian Flynn penning the script alongside him. The title of the film Widows, stars Viola Davis and is based on a British miniseries set in 1983, where a group of wives set an armed robbery in motion after their husbands are killed on the job.
Jennifer Lawrence was in talks to be one of the four female leads but had to drop out due to scheduling conflicts.
McQueen’s last film, 12 Years A Slave won the Oscar for Best Picture three years ago now; McQueen was nominated Best Director for the Oscars and BAFTAs. His previous films include Shame and Hunger. All three of his features starred Michael Fassbender, and we expect to see him involved in some way.
