Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks Cold War film gets official title
After months of production, the ‘Untitled Cold War Thriller’ – directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Tom Hanks – has finally been titled. Bridge of Spies, which also shot under the working name ‘St. James Place’, will tell the tale of the titular bridge, also known as the Bridge of Unity, that links West Berlin to the Potsdam city centre, and became famous for acting as a main information relay point between spies during the Cold War. Bridge of Spies will focus on the first prisoner exchange that took place on the bridge, where James Donovan (Tom Hanks), a lawyer, must negotiate the terms of the release of Francis Gary Powers, a pilot whose plane was, rather unluckily, shot down over the Soviet Union. News of the title comes from an interview by The Daily Pennsylvanian with the movie’s producer, Marc Platt, who said, ‘I have a film directed by Steven Spielberg starring Tom Hanks coming out called Bridge of Spies.’ So there you have it; although there hasn’t been an official press release yet, the title of the film coming from the producer’s mouth is as reliable as you can get. Bridge of Spies will be released on October 16 later this year.
