Suicide Squad 2 may begin filming soon
Suicide Squad was a huge box office success and even won an Academy Award, although people aren’t exactly lying awake at night, eagerly awaiting a sequel. Nevertheless, it appears that production for Suicide Squad 2 is moving forward with filming to commence next year.
Joel Kinnaman, who played Rick Flag, broke the news while speaking to the Hollywood Reporter about the latest season of House of Cards.
“As far as I know they’re writing the script and I think the plan is to shoot it sometime in 2018, but that could change. I think I’ll definitely come back for it,” the actor stated.
Although Kinnaman is confident that he’ll return for the followup, it’s unclear who else is on-board. Kinnaman mentioned that he would “love for David Ayer to direct it.” Of course he’ll be busy directing Gotham City Sirens, which brings together three of DC’s most beloved female villains, including Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn. As for who will direct Suicide Squad 2, Mel Gibson is reportedly a potential candidate.
While the original Suicide Squad got mostly negative reviews, the DC Extended Universe has seemingly gotten on track with Wonder Woman. Will they be able to keep up the momentum with Suicide Squad 2? We’ll find out when the sequel hits theaters in 2019.
