Suicide Squad cast announced
It seems that all those weeks of speculation have paid off: the cast of Suicide Squad, which will be directed by David Ayer and released in 2016, has just been officially announced, and it is huge.
- Will Smith is Deadshot
- Margot Robbie is Harley Quinn
- Tom Hardy is Rick Flagg
- Jai Courtney is Boomerange
- Cara Delevinge is Enchantress
- Jared Leto is the Joker
This is a massive, talented cast, an announcement that is exciting for multiple reasons. Firstly, we’ll get to see one of the biggest living movie stars, Will Smith – who only does a film every few years – in a super-powered flick that isn’t Hancock. Secondly, we’ll get to see a new iteration of the Joker, the most famous comic book villain of all time, shortly after the last iconic performance (Ledger’s) and from an Oscar-winning actor (Leto). Thirdly, Hardy will be another villain for DC; how will he follow on from the brute force that was The Dark Knight Rises‘ Bane? And lastly, Robbie will be fantastic as Harley Quinn, if her slightly deranged performance in The Wolf of Wall Street is anything to go by.
The movie, directed by David Ayer of Fury fame, will see a specialist team of supervillains unite as the Suicide Squad, and carry out top secret plans when the government don’t want to get their hands dirty. Of course, we’re still going to have to wait until the 5th of August 2016 to see the fruits of these casting choices, and with Oprah Winfrey, Viola Davis and Octavia Spencer vying for the role of Amanda Waller (to the Suicide Squad as what Nick Fury is to The Avengers), and Jesse Eisenberg eyed to star as Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice‘s Lex Luthor, this will be one star-studded film indeed.
