Sylvester Stallone departs Godforsaken two weeks before filming

STX Entertainment’s upcoming drama Godforsaken is in a bit of chaos this week after star Sylvester Stallone (Creed) decided to leave the project last week just two weeks before filming was scheduled to begin. Jim Mickle (Cold In July) is directing the film from a script by Daniel Casey and Eric Heisserer. (via Deadline)

The film, scheduled to start on December 5th in Atlanta, would have seen Stallone play an aging ex-con “with more regrets than memories. Upon hearing about his son’s death, his solitude is quickly broken as he must now protect the only family he has left and avenge a son he hardly knew.” The actor is said to have brought the project to STX and is being produced by Lawrence Grey, who was also working on the script with Stallone and the writers.

While there is no official reason just yet as to why Stallone left the film, the film will almost certainly go back to the drawing board with no word whether director Mickle will continue. In the meantime, Stallone will next be seen in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol 2, which opens next April, although his role is still yet to be officially announced.
