Terminator Sequels on Hold
You weren’t blown away by Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, you didn’t like Terminator: Salvation at all, and Terminator: Genisys was this once-promising franchise’s last shot at redemption. Despite Arnold Schwarzenegger’s return and James Cameron’s seal of approval, the fifth entry in the Terminator series was universally panned by critics and disappointed at the domestic box office. Granted, the film did make $440 million worldwide, but it will still likely lose money on its $150 million-plus budget.
Originally, Paramount had hoped Genisys would provide a comeback for the series, launching more sequels and a universe franchise. Since the film was a failure on every level, though, it isn’t surprising that the planned Terminator sequels have been put on hold indefinitely according to Indiewire. Cancelling the sequels altogether would probably be the smartest move at this point. If only 20th Century Fox would learn their lesson, as they’re still considering a Fantastic Four sequel even though it was an even bigger dud than Terminator: Genisys.
