The Dark Tower is being destroyed by critics

Sony’s film adaptation of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower is being hammered by critics, following its first wave of reviews. Recently, it was revealed that the film’s creative process was “plagued with problems and clashing visions”. And so unsurprisingly the film’s reviews have been nothing short of terrible.

With just a 20% score on Rotten Tomatoes, it’s not looking good for Nikolaj Arcel’s latest endeavor. See a roundup of the reviews below:

TheWrap – The 95-minute culmination of years-long efforts to bring The Dark Tower to the big screen is a complete disaster, a limp, barely coherent shell of a movie.

Variety – It’s a highly competent and watchable paranoid metaphysical video game that doesn’t overstay its welcome, includes some luridly entertaining visual effects, and — it has to be said — summons an emotional impact of close to zero.

THR – Heaven knows, the books offer more invention than could fit in one feature film, but in their effort to introduce newcomers to this world, the filmmakers make the saga’s contents look not archetypal but generic and cobbled together.

IGN – The Dark Tower is a thoroughly average take on some truly incredible source material. – 5/10

Collider It falls because it’s too embarrassed to stand. – 2/5

ScreenCrush – For a movie based on a beloved book series, the writing is sometimes shockingly bad .- 3/10

USAToday – What could have been the next Game of Thrones or The Lord of the Rings is instead more akin to a 1990s Steven Seagal movie (and not one of the good ones). – 1/4
