The Huntsman: Winter’s War Could Cost Universal $70 Million

The Huntsman: Winter’s War under-performed during its opening weekend, opening #2 at the domestic box office with only $20 million. Seeing how The Jungle Book is still performing well and a few high-profile films are coming out this upcoming weekend, the prequel to Snow White and the Huntsman will likely continue to be overshadowed at the box office. The fact that Captain America: Civil War is kicking off the Summer Movie Season on May 6 doesn’t help either.

According to Variety, the film could cost Universal up to $70 million given its costly budget. Even if Winter’s War were to find an audience on home entertainment platforms, it would still probably lose the studio $30-40 million.
