The Incredibles 2 Release Moved Ahead of Cars 3

Are you looking forward to The Incredibles 2? Of course you are! Are you looking forward to Cars 3? Yeah, we didn’t think so…

The good news is that The Incredibles 2 release date has now been moved ahead of Cars 3. Director Brad Bird made the announcement in a Collider interview, saying, “Incredibles was supposed to happen after Cars, and our wheels just happened to click a little earlier so they moved us up. Release dates are a little fluid when you’re making films so far in advance.”

Bird went on say that he’s “probably three-quarters through the script.” He also commented on the hardships of making a superhero movie in this day and age. “…what’s changed is there were only two other superhero franchises at the time Incredibles came out [in 2004]. One of them was X-Men and the other was Spider-Man, and now there are 400 billion of them and there’s a new superhero movie every two weeks.”

“What you don’t want to do is trot over the same turf in the same way everyone else is,” said Bird. “So we’re trying to keep it focused in the area that our film was, which was a little bit more about characters and relationships and stuff like that, and see where that takes us. But we’re having a good time.”

Seeing how superhero movies are everywhere nowadays, we can understand where Bird is coming from. However, this could also make leeway for new satire and commentary on modern cinema. If anything, now’s the perfect time to get that Incredibles sequel.
