Tom Cruise possibly starring in ‘The Mummy’ reboot
Tom Cruise is in talks to star in Universal’s reboot of The Mummy, the first project in a planned classic monster movie universe.
According to Variety, Cruise is in negotiations to help launch Universal’s ambitious new series of monster films, and could play a major role in the universe beyond The Mummy. The studio has planned for characters to link up in other monster movies, leading to an eventual “‘Avengers’-style tie-in film.”
Prometheus writer Jon Spaihts is working on the script. Plot details have not yet been revealed.
Alex Kurtzman and producer Chris Morgan are helping the studio develop the universe, with Kurtzman on board to direct The Mummy.
Cruise has his work cut out for him with sequels Top Gun 2, Jack Reacher: Never Go Back and Mission: Impossible 6 all on the go.
