Tom Cruise trained secretly with NASA to go to space

In what you’d think would be a mission impossible, Tom Cruise almost flew to space after being given secret astronaut training by Nasa.

According to The Sun, Cruise had hoped to join the crew of the US Space Shuttle Columbia, which crashed killing all 7 astronauts on board in 2003. So certainly a lucky escape for the actor.

Toni Myers, who directed Cruise in the film, Space Station 3D, revealed:

“Tom wanted to be an astronaut, he flies his own GulfStream IV Jet and he’s qualified as a pilot. He was very enthusiastic about doing Space Station 3D but the deal was he also wanted to fly in the Space Shuttle.

“He had a very good chance of doing so but then the accident happened and that was the end of that.”

Cruise has always been interested in astronomy and to prepare for the trip he was given an induction course by Nasa in Florida.
