Uggie the dog, star of The Artist, dies at 13

Uggie, the dog who shot to fame in 2011 with Oscar-winning film The Artist, has been put to sleep at the age of 13.

According to TMZ, the Jack Russell terrier was put down on Friday after suffering from a prostate tumour,

Uggie played Jean Dujardin’s dog in The Artist and also appeared in 2011’s Water for Elephants with Robert Pattinson.

Uggie won the tongue-in-cheek Palm Dog award for best canine actor at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival, and was the first dog to leave his paw prints on the cement outside Grauman’s Chinese Theatre in Hollywood. He will be sorely missed.
